Ambassador Programme
The Art School Africa Ambassador Programme offers two graduates or early-stage career art practitioners a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the art industry by interning with our team for one year on a part-time basis. By actively participating in various events throughout the year, our Ambassadors have the opportunity to attend and participate in a variety of events throughout the year, including monthly Collectors’ Club gatherings, the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, fundraising dinners, and more. These events are designed to provide access to a broader network within the industry while offering practical, hands-on experience.
Hear from our Ambassadors
Wondering what the Ambassador Programme is really like? Here’s the answer in their own words. From new connections to new confidence, our ambassadors share the moments that mattered most.
"My time with the Ambassador Programme so far has been incredibly fulfilling and enriching. I’ve met remarkable people. And had the opportunity to engage with brilliant minds. I have also learnt that the art world ecosystem is not as intimidating as one would think. The programme itself serves as a valuable bridge for artists or creatives who are unsure about the next step in their careers"

"I really enjoyed my experience as an ambassador for ASA in 2024. The programme exposed me to an array of galleries, artists, art practitioners, and a professional work experience at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, which I had never experienced before. In South Africa, it’s often very difficult for black art practitioners to gain practical experience in the art world, mainly because we don’t have access to such spaces in our local communities, and it’s generally not encouraged to pursue the arts as a viable career path. Art School Africa allowed me to not only intern at various events with huge galleries such as Southern Guild, but I also got the chance to work at the ‘Voices of the Future’ exhibition, which served as an invaluable experience that has contributed towards my career growth as well as accessing further opportunities in the art world."

"The grand lesson I took away from my year as an Ambassador, above all else, is how priceless knowing the right people truly is. Making it in this intimidating and wonderful world we have all chosen to spend our lives embedded in, it is the singular thing that will get you there. Each speaker, each teacher, each person I met throughout my time with Julia and ASA became this Rolodex of opportunity. It was like staring directly at a webbed and intersected future filled with those who had this monumental wealth of knowledge they were just giving away. Knowledge on art making, approaching galleries, connecting with agents, portfolio constructing, artist writing. I’ll tell you the road I have travelled and the people I have met, the jobs I’ve been offered, the friendships I have made. It is, without a singular doubt in my mind, truly, all thanks to Art School Africa and Julia. We need this education, we need Knowledge Shares (found on Art School Africa’s website by the way), we need the ‘in’ to get on the ladder. It’s a ladder that is not as impossible to climb as one might think. The Ambassador Programme at Art School Africa is the most incredible opportunity to start and I am forever grateful to have been a part of it."
