Opening the Door | Episode 5: Creative Careers Beyond the Studio

There is no single route to building a career in the arts and creative industries. Artists, designers, curators, cultural entrepreneurs, producers, advisors and many others contribute to an interconnected ecosystem, often moving between disciplines, creating new roles for themselves and building careers that do not follow a conventional path.

For the fifth and second-last episode of Opening the Door, we bring together a panel of creative professionals whose careers reflect this breadth. From graphic design and cultural entrepreneurship to exhibition platforms, curatorial work and creative business, each speaker has developed a distinctive way of working within and around the arts.

Through a panel discussion followed by a Q&A, the speakers will share the realities of building a creative career: how they found their way into the industry, the opportunities they created or pursued, the skills and relationships that have helped sustain their work, and the pivots and challenges they have navigated along the way.

This series responds to a persistent gap: access to the inner workings of the art world. For many emerging practitioners, the industry can remain opaque, shaped by unspoken rules, informal networks and uncertainty around how or where to begin.

Through candid conversations with people working across the sector, Opening the Door aims to make these pathways more visible, practical and accessible, while showing that a meaningful career in the creative industries can take many different forms.
