This exhibition invites audiences on a journey through four solo presentations by some of South Africa’s most prominent young artists; each one brings a distinct practice and voice. From Zarah Cassim’s quiet, atmospheric painting to Mikhailia Petersen’s playful, thought-provoking work, from pared-back photographic approaches to the richly textured surfaces of Abongile Sidzumo, and the compelling multimedia pieces of Sahlah Davids, every artist offers something unmistakably their own, and together they reflect a wider perspective on the country’s cultural landscape.

Alongside the solo artists, Art School Africa also presents a small group of emerging talents from communities in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda. The exhibition gives viewers a window into gifted artists from across the continent, including many who are showing work in an official exhibition for the first time. Art School Africa is a community-led non-profit focused on continuously supporting and strengthening artists through education workshops, mentoring, and exhibition opportunities.

Voices of the Future offers a multi-layered view of fine art in Southern Africa: the solo presentations set a benchmark for artistic excellence, while the emerging artists bring fresh, innovative perspectives. That contrast doesn’t just deepen how contemporary art in South Africa is understood; it also highlights the remarkable talent present across the continent.
